Situational Awareness Specialist Credentialing Training (Advanced Practitioner)

Arcuri Group’s Situation Awareness Specialist® – Advanced Practitioner (SAS-AP) professional certification course emphasizes the application of situational awareness concepts and skills to specific security, law enforcement, counter-crime and counter-terrorism topics and issues.

The goal is to provide the Practitioner with advanced information to enhance their situational awareness skills applicable to security threats involving active attackers, sophisticated criminal elements, and terrorism.

The program speaks to a number of competencies including but not limited to decision making and judgement; social competence; adaptability; emotional regulation; and stress tolerance.

Presentation Agenda (Times and Speakers)

The SAS-AP class will be presented over two consecutive days (two 2-hour blocks).

Students will receive mandatory pre-course reading material that they will be tested on at the completion of the course.
There will be a total of 4-hours of live instructor-led learning.

Certification will be awarded following the successful completion of a two-part certification exam. Part 1 is a multiple-choice exam focused on the pre-course reading material. Part 2 is an essay style exam where students will have to analyze two case studies applying the topics learned during the instructor-led portion of the class.

Learning Outcomes/Objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, the attendee/student will have achieved the following Terminal Objectives:

  1. Learn and describe the definitions and basic concepts of situational awareness, including survival mindset, human aggression, observation, alertness, practical planning, and be able to implement a personal operations plan.
  2. Learn and describe the definition and concepts of situation dynamics and how it enhances awareness and observation.
  3. Learn and describe the definitions and concepts of heuristics, kinesics, autonomics, proxemics, atmospherics and how these concepts promote cognitive dominance.
  4. Learn and describe the definitions and concepts of terrorism (including motivation and objectives, targets, traits and methodology), the terrorist attack planning cycle, ambush and counter ambush characteristics, surveillance detection and surveillance tradecraft, and how these concepts can be used to protect people as well as infrastructure.

Practical Objectives include:

  • Enable a mindset change.
  • Become a practitioner of the craft able to perform with elevated situational awareness.
  • Become an asset to self and others through the application of advanced situational awareness tradecraft.

Presenters

Presenter – Greg Briggs

Picture of Greg BriggsGreg Briggs has 17 years in the nuclear industry as a leader in Nuclear Security and Emergency Management. Prior to this Rich served for 22 years in the Canadian Armed Forces.
He is certified Use of Force, Firearms and Tactics instructor and has developed highly regarded training and response programs for law enforcement and security professionals.

He is Vice President of the Ontario Tactical Advisory Body (OTAB), and a Master instructor for Arcuri and an expert in the field of critical infrastructure security/protection.

He is a father of three and husband to a dedicated police officer of 15 years.

Tom Pecora

Picture of Thomas PecoraThomas (Tom) Pecora, SAS-MP – Senior Consultant, Master Instructor and Adjunct Professor:
Tom is a former US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Senior Security Officer who served over two decades protecting and training CIA personnel. He was responsible for the security of CIA personnel in several active war zones and has extensive worldwide operational security experience and in-depth knowledge of security disciplines through overseas postings and travel assignments in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Tom is a seasoned protective operation veteran and trainer. He has over 30 years of experience as a security professional working in counterterrorism, personnel and physical security, crisis management, protective operations, counter-surveillance, investigations, and consulting. Aside from his from his position as Senior Advisor with Arcuri Group, he is also Director of Pecora Consulting Services (PCS LLC) where he provides leadership consulting services to companies with significant security elements.

Mr. Pecora is an Adjunct Professor at the Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine.
